Escape! Run away with all your might! ︎
BBC's documentary program "Planet Earth II" is very popular with its beautiful nature, hardy living animals, and powerful narration by British naturalist David Attenborough. The program, which was filmed in 40 countries over the course of three years, is highly rated for its first-class quality.
Planet Earth II has become a hot topic because the ordeal that the baby iguana of the Galapagos Islands, who appeared in the first episode, faces as soon as she is born is too harsh.
This is a video from BBC Earth, presented by the Independent.
Escape! Hurry up and catch up with me!! ︎
A large number of snakes await the iguana who just hatched from the egg. This snake has poor eyesight, but it reacts to movement, so it will ferociously chase the iguana baby if it runs away. Snakes appear one after another from the rock shadow and approach the iguana baby at a tremendous speed. The rocky mountain also climbs without slowing down. It's like watching a Matt Damon or Tom Cruise action movie! Scary, scary!! ︎
Independent reporter Christopher Hooton saw this tense video and asked Matthew Meech, who edited the first episode of Planet Earth II, if he was conscious of the movie. Below is Mitch's comment.
I'm a fanatical movie lover. Hitchcock, Christopher Nolan, Scorsese, Spielberg, I love them all. Editing footage of the natural world is like editing a silent movie. Everything is made up of actions and reactions. Timing is important, it can be a comedy or a thriller. Narration is important, but isn't it boring to have them explain it all at once? The image itself should tell the whole story.Meach says he likes to find genre within these sequences of events. Mr. Attenborough's documentary program "Africa", which was broadcast before, showed giraffe battles in a western style, and the documentary program "The Hunt" showed wild dog hunting in a car chase style.
With this iguana and snake sequence, I wanted to make the viewer think "something is wrong" from the moment the first iguana appears. With the effect of music and sound design, a movie-like scene was completed. It's called "the best scene in TV history" on the internet. Certainly, there are very few images of nature that make you sweat like this.
By the way, The LAD bible has published a super comical video of the exact same material. I just want to introduce this because I'm addicted to it, but it's also proof of how much editing can affect the video, so please take a look.
I shouldn't laugh, but I can! Great editing effect. And Yakety Sax is doing a great job as always.
