Joby Aviation, which develops eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft) for commercial passenger services based in California, USA, is the second prototype of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Special Airworthiness Certificate and the US Air Force. Announced that it has obtained "Airworthiness Certificate".
Fly about 250 km on a single charge
In the first place, Joby Aviation is a US venture company that is developing a large drone called eVTOL. It is characterized by being designed for short-distance and frequent flights, and aims to be used as a "flying taxi" by commuters, business travelers, and travelers mainly in metropolitan areas.
The first prototype eVTOL by Joby Aviation succeeded in flying the longest flight of eVTOL to date, about 154 miles (about 247 kilometers) on a charge once in 2021. In total, it seems to be flying over 5300 miles (about 8700 kilometers).
The second eVTOL developed by the company succeeded in obtaining the FAA special airworthiness certificate in time for the start of commercial use in 2024. The flight is scheduled to start by the end of January 2022.
Furthermore, the US Air Force airworthiness certificate was obtained only 6 days after the acquisition of the FAA special airworthiness certificate. This approval schedule is the result of close collaboration between Joby Aviation and the US Air Force to speed up various procedures.
