The BMW Group announced on November 20 that it has introduced VR (Virtual Reality) technology in preparation for the mass launch of the new "3 Series Sedan".
The introduction of VR technology aims to smoothly launch the mass production of the new 3 Series sedan. For example, by wearing a dedicated headset before actually starting production, you can have a simulated experience of incorporating the cockpit module into the vehicle. The system, logistics, and assembly planners, along with field employees, were able to evaluate the entire production area in the virtual reality world and test new procedures in 3D.
The BMW Group is accelerating vehicle development speed using MR (Mixed Reality), which combines real world and virtual simulation. The BMW Group is pioneering the use of these techniques, with technologies in the consumer electronics and computer gaming fields, as well as a new generation of data glasses that provide extremely realistic visualization of increasing components and vehicle capabilities.
One of the areas where the BMW Group uses MR is the development of vehicle interiors. Here, computer-generated simulations and interior mockups are combined. This will allow the driving experience of models to be mass-produced in the future to be created as a comprehensive image in the early stages of development.
