(CNN) U.S. military officials are responsible for the issue of U.S. military bombing Kabul in Afghanistan with a drone in August this year, killing 10 civilians, including seven children. Decided a policy that does not matter.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said at a press conference yesterday that Austin was asked to improve Pentagon policies and procedures for U.S. Central Command and Special Operations Command after verification of airstrikes. Instructed to make a recommendation. However, the recommendation did not include any blame for those involved in the August airstrikes.
This will prevent disciplinary action regarding air strikes in August. The Pentagon described the bombing as a "tragic mistake" due to a "mistake".
Two weeks after the bombing, the Pentagon has finally admitted its mistakes after media outlets such as CNN questioned the US military's explanations.
The U.S. military killed Ezmalai Ahmadhi, an Afghan who worked for the food aid nonprofit NEI. Ahmadhi was in the process of applying for a visa for his family to move to the United States. Nine other people, including Ahmadhi's family, were killed in the airstrikes.
NEI representative Stephen Kwon strongly accused the Pentagon of the decision, "What does it mean that the military accidentally kills 10 Afghan people and does not take responsibility for anyone?"
"There was no basis for personal liability in this case," Kirby said, explaining why Austin did not pursue more responsibility for the August airstrikes.
The Pentagon has recently admitted that an airstrike in Syria in March 2019 also killed civilians.
