Xiaomi announced on March 4th the entry-level Android smartphone "Redmi Note 11" equipped with a 6.43-inch organic EL display. The release date is March 10, and the estimated market price is 24,800 yen. At the Xiaomi official store in Rakuten Ichiba and the direct sales site "mi.com", the first 500 units will be sold at an "early discount price" of 22,800 yen each.
Before the review, there is no doubt that the Redmi Note 11 is a quality device with a price of 24,800 yen or more. However, after actually trying it for a few days, there were some points that I was worried about. We also carry out camera tests and benchmarks, so please take a closer look until the end.
Redmi Note 11 uses "MIUI 13" (based on Android 11) as the OS and "Snapdragon 680" (8 cores, up to 2.4GHz, Qualcomm Adreno 610 GPU, 6nm process) as the SoC. The memory (RAM) is 4GB (LPDDR4X), and the storage (ROM) is 64GB (UFS2.2).
The display is 6.43 inch FHD + organic EL (2400 x 1080 dots, 409ppi, brightness 700cd / m 2 (HBM) / 1000cd / m 2 (peak brightness), color gamut DCI-P3, contrast ratio 4,500,000: 1, refresh rate up to 90Hz, Equipped with a touch sampling rate of up to 180Hz, Corning Gorilla Glass). The front camera at the top of the screen has a punch hole specification.
Communication function supports 4G (dual SIM), Wi-Fi 5 (11ac), Bluetooth 5.0. The interface is equipped with a USB Type-C, 3.5mm headset terminal. With the infrared blaster, you can use the infrared remote control function.
Storage is small, but you can increase the capacity by installing a microSD memory card (up to 1TB). However, only camera, theme, and gallery data can be recorded on the microSD memory card. The app cannot be saved.
The body is IP53 drip-proof. The size is 159.87 x 73.87 x 8.09 mm, and the weight is 179 g. The battery has a built-in 5000mAh. The battery life has not been announced, but a 33W AC adapter is included and the battery charge time is claimed to be 61 minutes.
Although it is an inexpensive entry machine, the package includes a protective case, USB Type-C cable, AC adapter, SIM eject tool, and explanatory documents in addition to the main body. One screen protection film has already been attached. All you need is earphones.
Only 4GB + 64GB models will be released in Japan, but 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB models are also available globally. With 64GB, it is necessary to carefully select the application to be installed, and I wanted the storage 128GB model to be available in the Japanese market.
The Redmi Note 11 is sold with an organic EL display with the DCI-P3 color gamut. However, there is no mention of HDR on the global product official website or spec table. I couldn't find any HDR related items on the settings screen, and I couldn't play HDR content on YouTube or the Netflix app. When I contacted Xiaomi about HDR support, Redmi Note 11 does not support HDR and there are no plans to support it in the future. It's a little disappointing.
This product is named "50 million pixel AI quad camera", 50 million pixel main (F1.8), 8 million pixel super wide angle (118 degrees, F2.2), 2 million pixel macro (F2.4) , A rear camera (F2.4) consisting of a 2 million pixel depth camera and a 13 million pixel front camera (F2.4) are installed.
Sometimes you can take pictures with a little high exposure, but I don't think the main camera's image is that of a smartphone for 24,800 yen. Even if a strong color entered the screen, the color was not pulled this time. I felt that if there was a certain amount of light, it would be possible to shoot in the middle range and flagship.
However, it does not have an optical telephoto camera, and it feels quite rough at the maximum magnification of 10x digital zoom. If you want to see it on your smartphone or print it on the L version, it is a practical level, but if you want to shoot a distant subject, you should choose another terminal.
Focusing is difficult in macro photography. Even with a 6.43-inch screen, it is difficult to tell whether the subject is in focus, so it is recommended that you move it back and forth to release multiple shutters.
In the night view mode, overexposure such as signboards and lighting is suppressed, but the details in the dark areas are lost and noise is also noticeable. The impression is that the hardware performance of the camera has not been fully compensated by software processing. However, within the price range of this product, I think it has top-class night view shooting performance.
Regarding processing performance, we measured with four standard benchmarks, but the overall score of "AnTuTu Benchmark V9.3.1" remained at 248680. At the time of writing the article, AnTuTu Benchmark ranked first in the ranking of "iQOO 9 Pro", and the overall score is 997944, so Redmi Note 11 is about 25% of that score.
However, I actually played the battle royale game "PUBG: NEW STATE", and although it takes some time to start (around 39 seconds without an update), once the game starts, I will play without stress. I enjoyed it. If you adjust the graphic quality, there are titles that can be played in new 3D games.
Equipped with an organic EL display, the telephoto and night view are a little weak, but the 50-megapixel AI quad camera is the top class smartphone in this price range. If you don't want graphic quality, you can play 3D games without stress. If support for 5G and FeliCa is not essential, Redmi Note 11 can be said to be one of the standard entry smartphones from the outstanding cost performance.
