Normally, OBS converts the Skype screen into live streaming video To post, you have to capture the Skype screen or capture the Skype window.
However, if you use the method using NDI that I will introduce this time, Skype will support live distribution, so even OBS will be able to put it on the live distribution in a more optimal form.
NDI (Network Device Interface) is a new live video production workflow support protocol using IP developed by NewTek in the United States. By utilizing this NDI technology, even in a general Gigabit Ethernet environment, video, audio, and metadata can be transferred not only between systems such as NewTek's TriCaster and IP series, but also various NDI-compatible systems, devices, and PCs. It enables real-time mutual transmission with, etc.
OBS is free live streaming software. Please watch the following video for the operation method.
will show you how to live stream a Skype video call.
First, set up Skype. Open Skype settings.
After opening the settings, open the "Advanced settings" of "Call".
When you open the advanced settings, turn on "Allow use of NDI®️" (blue state).
Skype setup is now complete.
Next, we will configure OBS. First, install a "plugin" so that you can use NDI with OBS.
If you haven't installed OBS, please install it from the OBS website.
Open "Releases · Palakis/obs-ndi · GitHub" to download the NDI plugin.
Download the file "MacOS" for Mac and "Windows" for Windows.
After downloading, open the file and install it.
Once the plugin is installed, open OBS. After opening OBS, click Tools in the menu. If you see "NDI™️ Output settings", the plugin has been successfully installed.
Add 'NDI™️ Source' to OBS Source in order to live stream video from Skype. Click the "+" of the source.
Select "NDI™ Source".
The NDI™️ Source settings are displayed. Click OK on Create New. The NDI™️ Source may optionally change its friendly display name.
Next, select the NDI source. There is a caveat here. To select Skype as the source for NDI™️ Source, you must have a video call (or call) on Skype. If there is no video call, the Skype option will not appear in the Source name.
Once Skype is selected, click OK. Your Skype video call will now be included as a source in OBS.
Only one video (e.g. video from the other party) is captured by one NDI™️ Source. So, for example, if you are making a group call with 3 people, you need to add 3 NDI™️ Sources in the OBS source.
The Skype ID will be displayed when you select the source name, so you can select the ID of the person you want to add.
This time, when I actually streamed with two people, the operation of OBS became slow, so I used the video of my web camera. To view yourself using your webcam, add a video capture source in OBS and select your webcam video to see your face.
After that, let's adjust the position and size of each image.
Once you have adjusted the position, you can start live streaming with OBS.
If the live streaming audio is set to "NDI™️ Source", the Skype audio will be streamed live as is.
Finally, I will post a video of the live stream performed using the method introduced in this article.
