The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros have an additional notch at the top of the screen, as Apple says the camera housing (because it houses the FaceTime HD camera). However, strange behavior was reported, such as a part of the menu bar being hidden behind the notch, probably because macOS Monterey or the application side did not support it.
Apple has revealed that it has already prepared a solution to these notch problems. However, the direction is to "make the display area smaller so that it fits under the notch."
According to the latest support documentation published by Apple, when you turn on the "Scale to fit under built-in camera" option in the app, the display area is adjusted, menu bar items are placed under the notch, and are always visible. It is said that it will be done.
This option is limited to the new MacBook Pro. To turn it on, open the Finder app and click "Applications" in the sidebar. Then right-click on the app you want and select "Get Info" to enable the "Scale to fit under built-in camera" checkbox in the info window that opens.
In short, make the display area of macOS and apps smaller so that it fits under the notch so that the left and right sides of the notch are not used. It seems to ruin Apple's idea that "notch is a smart solution that expands the space where content can be displayed", but it seems that the discomfort is gone anyway. The effect is demonstrated in the tweet below.

Apple also said that when developers update their apps to be compatible with the Mac, the Scale to fit under the built-in camera setting disappears. You can contact the app developer to see if an update is available or planned, "he added.
In other words, it seems that the display around the notch is strange because the update of the application developer is not catching up (Apple is not responsible).
